You should not need JACK, audio interfaces supporting the USB audio standard all versions should work lniux you having to do anything. Buy an add-on sound card for the Pi.
In fact, installing JACK may very well be the source of your problems. Same thing will happen if I turn off the monitor – no sound. I understand that Raspbian is a Debian variety, but I would hope that if there is a driver for Ubuntu, that there might also be one for Debian Linux.
