Unfortunate cancellation

As I was driving up to San Francisco, I got a call from the Internet Archive folks saying that due to unexpected circumstances, no one would be in the office today. However, they want to keep in touch with me, so that’ll be nifty. Perhaps I’ll have more to report about the Internet Archive and The Open Library in the near future.

Heading up to the Internet Archive

Internet Librarian 2005 is over, although you can still see a few librarians here and there in Monterey. I’ve checked out of the B&B, and I’m heading up to San Francisco to visit the nice folks at the Internet Archive. I’ll be blogging and Flickring photos from my tour of the digs, as well as my experience scanning a book using the crazy cool Scribe scanner. After a day of adventure, I’ll be visiting with some friends of a friend who live in a geodesic dome near Santa Cruz, then flying out of San Francisco back to Boston on Friday morning.

Festive!

I do still have notes to write up from the conference, which I may not get to until Sunday or so. Overall it was an interesting conference, more of a people conference for me than a sessions conference. I’ve learned a few interesting things about how conference bloggers seem to be evolving, and I really enjoyed my first experience as a presenter.

I’ll reflect more later. Time to hit the road.

Interesting use of notes on Flickr

flock. doesn’t work.

Step 1: Read these instructions through before you click on the photo to your right.

Step 2: Click on the photo to your right.

Step 3: On the Flickr photo page, you’ll see 3 boxes on the photo. These are “Notes”, ways to annotate the photo directly on the photo.

Step 4: You’ll notice that the first comment was to point out that the search engine is not Google. Then someone used an *overlapping* note box to respond to that first comment, and someone else used another overlapping note box to respond to the second comment.

Conversations. About photos. Directly on photos. So *very* hot.

My presentation

I’m on the stage right now. I just gave my presentation. I s’pose it was OK, being as it was my first time, but I’m more interested to see what other people blog about it.

Here’s the page of information and resources I used in the presentation:

Talk about tags being a gateway to the world. There are so many photos tagged “il05″ on flicker that we’ve earned ourselves a spot on the What’s Hot tag list on Flickr.
