Bloglines now supports package tracking

I love my Bloglines account. I’ve been getting a good number of emails about my Bloglines and my blogroll, because apparently more people are reading my Bloglines blogroll through the link off my blog. Nifty.

Yet another reason to love Bloglines is the new package tracking feature, which sends package tracking status reports to you as a feed. So very sexy.

I’m guessing that, due to their acquisition by Ask Jeeves, we might see more of these little toys in Bloglines in the future.

Free Comic Book Day is coming!

Granted, Free Comic Book Day is a little over a month away, but it’s never too early to plan. Thanks to Catalogablog for putting out the reminder. 40 days and counting!

Free comic book day is not just a day of jubilance for comic book enthusiasts everywhere (and, well, an opportunity to get free comics), but a great way for newbies to ask questions and see what all the buzz is about. Mark those calendars, and check out the site to find a participating comic book store near you.

Zen mindfulness @ your library

It’s really very cool when my professional and philosophical worlds collide.

One of the ways I keep myself sane in my way busy life is through yoga and various forms of meditation, including mindfulness meditation. Through mindfulness, I find a certain cleansing of the brain, as it were, kinda like a refresh button for my thinking, which clears all the clutter to allow me to focus on individual tasks more easily, and also to make my multitasking more efficient.

This month’s LISCareers articles included this gem on how mindfulness can help a librarian serve patrons better:

Mindfulness for Librarians

If you’re new to meditation, Beliefnet has an excellent introduction to different forms of meditation, so you can pick which kind (and/or faith) works for you. The mindfulness meditation listed is “A Moment of Calm” by Tara Brach, which is a short, non-denominational guided meditation combined with a Flash animation of soothing images, which is a great starter for people who might need the visual compliment to help them focus on the guided bit.

Meditation is also great for coping with Attention Deficit Trait.

Like scifi lit? The Hugo nominees are out.

Wow, it’s a long list, too.

Cory Doctorow notes that there are a whole lot of Brits on the list this year.

So if you’re doing any scifi buying for your library, hit this list for this year’s hot books, short stories, fan art, web sites, artists, “dramatic presentations” (which are all TV shows), and more.

On a scifi note, check out the library gimmick posted to Boing Boing that makes it look like books are moving around on shelves by themselves.

Blogger’s been all sorts of cranky

The week before Computers in Libraries, I was having some problems republishing the PLA Blog, which is powered by Blogger. At Computers in Libraries, multiple bloggers complained of issues using the Blogger service. Now we know why:
