so you wanna build a public library anime collection
ok, yes, it’s been a while. i’ll get to that later. i promised myself i wouldn’t post anything new until i did the retroactive “what’s been going on/why i fell off the face of the planet”, but screw it, this is too good.
seems that many of the people i’ve been talking to about amazon.com and their nifty features didn’t know about the fabulous “So You’d Like to…” guides. i cited amazon as a selection source in my collection development project because it’s actually way more than an online mega mall when it comes to books, music, and movies.
one of the neato so you wanna guides i stumbled on today (checking out the kill bill soundtracks for 1 and 2, and specifically a japanese artist on one of the soundtracks… imports are too expensive!) is priceless:
So you’d like to… Build a public library anime collection
A guide by Terry Dawson, public librarian
it covers children separately from adults, and not only gives recommendations of items, but helpful collection development tools.
terry dawson, you are my hero. thank you for this service you have done. hopefully people who think they know what anime is will learn something about what anime *really* is. (see also – my rant on how some librarians seem to think all graphic novels are japanese porn.)
and all you librarians out there, take note! we could all be on amazon flexing our knowledge muscles with a little of the crazy readers/viewers advisory fun, showing the world we can play well with technology and the internet, and giving people a sense of what kind of work and smahts go into figuring out what books to put on library shelves, justifying their tax dollars at work. pick a topic you like and go crazy! (yet another project for my list, like i don’t have enough to do…)
