Google calendar announced today, Paypal takes payments by phone
I learned about both of these things on the Boston Channel 5 news. Not through blogs, or online news, just watching the old fashioned TV. That makes me giggle inside a little.
Anyway, rumors have been flying around tech circles about Googles calendar feature, but indeed, it is now true and real. Gmail plays well with the calendar, even recognizing dates in emails, and helping you add them to your calendar. Very cool, but at the same time a bit spooky.
On a segment called “The Click” (one of my favorite news bits that takes new tech and make it accessible to everyone, something libraries could really learn from) today’s highlight was the fact that Paypal lets you use your phone like a debit card. Paypal Mobile, as it’s called, lets you send money the way you would with the regular web version, as well as buying from a minimall of sorts directly from your phone. Imagine a day when people aren’t afraid to come to the library because they’re able to pay their fines on the way over by phone before they came in?
