Cory Doctorow speaking @ MIT: the waiting
I’m sitting in Bartos Theater (E15) at MIT, which is currently sparsely occupied, making good use of the copious MIT free wifi. “Down and Out at MIT: An Evening with Cory Doctorow” was originally slated to begin at 5p, but given our recent nor’easter and Cory’s flying in from London, the start time has been pushed to 6:30p.
[As I was typing the paragraph above, Cory arrived. I'm all sorts of a-quiver. You have no idea. It's *geektastic*.]
[Oh, hey, as another side note, I heard a story on NPR about a week or so ago about MIT working with the city of Cambridge, MA to hook up the city with free, universal wifi. This, also, causes me to be all a flutter. Despite the fact that the speed of said wifi will be so-so in terms of speed, big A+ for effort.]
Mr. Doctorow is an co-editor and blogger for BoingBoing, one of my favorite blogs *evar* (as most of you know), as well as was a European Affairs Coordinator for the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). Cory writes, and you can download his stuff off his site for free under his Creative Commons license. He’s listed as an MIT Office of the Arts Artist-in-Residence for the month of February, and apparently he’s a good friend of my AIM friend John Klima, who is also a librarian [appended 2/17/06].
I had wonderful luck finding free parking just near the building, given how much snow there is outside. So much fabulous karma. However, to balance it out, I forgot my *camera*, so I’m a terribly sad panda.
Anyway, yeah, overall, I’m wonderfully stoked. I’m sure I’ll have more to say in a little bit.
