Interesting problems with my .info domain
The .info domain isn’t nearly as obscure as it used to be. .info domains are often less expensive to register than .com and .net domains, and opens the door for businesses and organizations that couldn’t get a hold of their domains for various reasons, both aspects which are helping with the rise in visibility. I encourage librarians, and even libraries, to adopt a .info domain for its online information designator properties.
And yet, I’ve been running into all sorts of interesting problems with my .info domain, especially my email address (which, despite my best efforts, has somehow made it onto the spam lists). For instance, if I try to email search results to myself from certain databases (one of the few places I use my .info email address online), or to send myself an article from an web news source, an error message often alerts me that my email address is invalid, or encourages me to check the spelling and punctuation in my email address. I’ve only had a few problems with the entire domain name itself in forms, but it has happened here and there.
With the .info domain mostly signifying *information* purposes (although it also tends to be very generally used), I would think that all sorts of online applications, especially library databases, would have updated their systems to accept it by now. Anyone else having any interesting problems with a .info domain?
